From Military Vehicles to the Local Council Fleet, Rhys Has The Knowledge And Qualifications
I decided to open Mongrel Mechanics due to the amount of work I was getting asked to do on my weekends off. There are a fair few workshops in Airlie beach but due to the recent influx of people over the last few years, there is usually a 2 to 3-week wait for you to get your car looked at so figured there was room for another workshop.
I passed my Diesel mechanic trade back in 1997 in the British Army. From there I was posted around the world doing mechanic work on military vehicles, in places Germany, Poland and 2 tours of Bosnia/Yugoslavia.
Moving to Australia in 2009 as a backpacker I’ve worked in many places, such as a mechanic on a cattle station in Julia Creek and fixing everything and anything on Daydream Island.
For the last 5 years, I’ve worked for Whitsunday Regional council as their main mechanic before I opened Mongrel Mechanics
